One of my favorite restaurants in Cincinnati
by pherb
The salsa is better than any other Mexican restaurant anywhere. I've never ordered anything disappointing. The owner is very pleasant and remembers us. The food is always delicious and pretty. Service is great. It always seems very reasonably priced to me, but I'm not a student anymore. The restaurant is not brightly lit as it also has a bar. I personally really enjoy that for a relaxed meal.
- Pros: Salsa, great food, service
- Cons: None
Great latin fair

What a great place to visit. I went with a group of people and the waitress, although shorthanded, did great... I have to mention that they must have their Margaritas on a great work out plan because boy were they STRONG, if you order one keep it to a small cause they will knock your socks off!!!
Best Margaritas in town

I took my gf here over the weekend and got a pitcher of frozen margaritas for the 2 of us. After 2, i could deff tell i was getting a buzz. Although you have to pay for your chips and salsa, the salsa is made fresh daily and is only 1.95. Not a bad price for an appitizer. I highly recommend the wraps. They are huge and a great price for as much as you get. Hope this helps. I have only eat at the clifton spot but have heard the other one is good as well.
- Pros: Friendly staff, great wraps, and great drinks
- Cons: Pricey
Too expensive for what you get

I took my two adult children out for a nice meal. Can't believe that we had to pay for chips and salsa. Also, we had marquiritas and there was NO ALCOHOL in them; well, practically none. I could've had a glass of water and gotten more of a buzz. Six dollars for a drink that has no discernable alcohol in it is beyond ridiculous. My bill was $82 w/o the tip. Unbelievable. All we had were enchiladas. Nothing extraordinary although they were good. Definitely not an $82 meal. I may go back but I wouldn't order drinks and I'd have to think twice about paying that kind of money for enchiladas. The owners definitely should reevaluate where they cut costs and need to trim some off those prices.
- Pros: We were seated right away on a Saturday night.
- Cons: No discernable alcohol in the drinks. High prices.
Mediocre

The food was good, though not spectacular. Most items were overpriced. The margaritas and black bean salsa were great, though.
- Pros: Quaint neighborhood
- Cons: Too pricey
Best black bean salsa

The black bean salsa can't be beat. Great food -- everything I've tried was spectacular. My favorite is the chicken wrap.
- Pros: black bean salsa is great
- Cons: limited parking and you have to pay $1 for chips/salsa
Creative Mexican cuisine in a cozy setting, complete with multiple vegetarian alternatives

In Short
The original paintings by local artists combined with customary music enhance the southwestern theme inside this restaurant. Large tables and booths fill the room, setting up an intimate atmosphere for dates, mid-sized parties or families. The menu includes traditional Mexican, as well as spicy pastas and seafood dishes and creative twists like the signature Cactus Pear fajitas, available with tofu, eggplant, portabella or pork in addition to the usual chicken and beef.
One of my favorite places in Clifton, period

The owner is a gentleman, the main bartender is a great guy and the waitstaff is extremely professional and competent. I suggest this establishment for everyone, even those who don't like Margaritas or Mexican quisine. Good selection of drinks, great food, just great all-round.
- Pros: Family and Bar patrons easily share this restaurant
- Cons: Some dishes may be pricy, for some.
One of my favorites!

Cactus Pear is one of my favorite restaurants in Cincinnati, and probably my favorite in Clifton. I go once a week and ALWAYS get the chicken nacho salad ($8.95), which is the perfect mix of warm black beans, cool vegetables, melted cheese, and crunchy chips. I've had the cuban melt and arizone wrap sandwiches before, they were good, but the chicken nacho salad is awesome. A basket of chips and black bean salsa (highly recommended) are $1...they might not be on the menu, but you can ask for them. To top it off I always order one of thier perrrfect frozen margaritas (very strong, and also available in pitchers). No matter what time I go, I'm always seated promtly and the nacho salad is out within minutes! Servers are very pleasant. I never leave without a happy stomach and a smile on my face :)
- Pros: margaritas, black bean salsa, fast service

I had read good things of this restaurant, but upon finally eating there, I discovered expensive food that was far from worth the price paid. The atmosphere was nothing to boast about, and nothing myself or my date ate was even remotely appetizing.
