Perfect dining experience. Wonderful staff and the food is the best! The parking can test your abilities to drive.

  • Pros: Best Indian food in town!
  • Cons: None

The service at this place is amazing! Another customer dumped an entire glass of water into my chicken curry, thereby ruining it, and just walked away. The servers at Ambar not only moved us to a new table, they replaced all our food--even the food that wasn't affected! The restaurant was super busy at the time, but they went above and beyond to remedy a situation that wasn't even their fault.

  • Pros: Quality food, service that goes above and beyond
  • Cons: Nothing

This is one of my son's favorite restaurants. The buffet is an excellent value. The samosas are excellent, as is the tandori chicken. The atmosphere is nice, and it never feels too crowded.

I have tried Indian food several times and did not care for it until I ate at Ambar! Now I am hooked! I actually crave it on a weekly basis. The food is great, comes in good portions, and is a great value(in my opinion). I can put away some food and I have to be very hungry to finish an entire entree with rice(though it has happened : ) If you like spicey food, the Chicken Vindaloo is unbeatable!! Chicken Mater is also another one of my favs. Baba India(Hyde Park), Guru India(Crescent Springs, KY), and Akash India(downtown) are under the same ownership and offer the same great food if Clifton is not convenient for you. I carryout from here often as well!

  • Pros: Food, Service
  • Cons: Parking, Tight Seating

I hate this place. I will never go back again. First of all, it's insanely overpriced. It probably costs them $1 to make chicken and they charge 14.95. There usually isn't even enough to take home as leftovers. And you can tell they put food coloring in it to make it look pretty. I had their Papadi chaat which was basically yogurt on a plate, which I'm pretty sure was going bad. I also had the worst waitress I have ever had. She did not say Hi or hello, instead she asked me "What do you want?" Which is rude and inconsiderate. When I told her that my food is not good, she argued with me. I don't know what their problem is, but Ambar India needs to reconsider their service. They treat Indian people worse than any of their other customers, which I have experienced more than once at this restaurant. Please don't go here, especially if you are Indian, they are going to treat you very badly.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! My friends and I go all the time and we love the experience (the whole experience.) I have yet to have a bad waitress. Then again, you usually get back the same attitude as you give. I would expect that they have to rush a little and turn over tables quick because it is such a small place. Every time I go, there is a well deserved wait. I love the food. Nothing comes close to it. I don't even mind parking on a side street and walking a little becasue it adds to the ambiance. I love to window shop and meet area people.

  • Pros: Everything
  • Cons: a tad expensive (but well worth it)

Ok this restaurant lost 4 stars just because of their Dumb and arrogant waitresses. I've to admit the food is one of the best, but if it is not served well its all useless.

I went there on July 21, 2007 for dinner with a friend of mine. I was amazed how dumb a person could be.

1. my friend didn't get a spoon

2. we ordered tea for us. waitress only got 1 tea and then started arguing with me that i only ordered 1.

3. Very conveniently they didn't provide any sugar on our table.

4.we ordered food including 2 naan (indian bread), dumb waitress only brought 1 naan. thats when i lost my temper and gave her a good earful. she didn't even said sorry and brought one more naan. (of course the plates were just tossed before us as another review says, its very true"

How Dumb you could be to bring food for 1 person when you see 1 persons sitting on the table.

I do not think i will ever step in that restaurant again and i'll also pass on the word to my friends to keep away from them.

I'd advice the owner to get rid of those dumb arrogant waitresses otherwise they will lose their business big time.

  • Pros: Good Food
  • Cons: Dumb Arrogant waitresses, small seating spaces, small parking, tiny restrooms

The Scene
The atmosphere is casual with surprising high-end touches like chandeliers and white tablecloths. A steady stream of Indian clientele all but verify the delicious authenticity of the fragrant dishes. The menu is full of vegetarian items (even vegans have plenty of choices) as well as a long list of meat dishes. Vegetable samosas are a filling appetizer, while popular entrees include chicken tikka saag (chicken cooked with spinach, cream and tomato sauce) and other spicy curries.

This is a wonderful place for the whole family to eat. They have two locations: one in Clifton and one downtown. I prefer the downtown location because they have a buffet as well as the regular menu. It is within walking distance of shopping and entertainment. The Clifton location is nice also.

The food is the best indian in Cincinnati, but I have to say, to the previous post, this rude behavior is not just focused on one ethnicity. maybe that is how you saw it that time, but i have gone almost once a week for almost a year. they treat EVERYONE like this. they are short, have little concept of appropriate etiquette of wait staff and they do not care. they are usually packed, they are raking it in, and they are kind to no one over others. i had a server spill water all over the table and look at me like i had done it. the food is wonderful and worth patroning with this COLLEGE AREA resturant. they behave like this because more than half of there patrions aren't tipping whether the service is good or not. and even with all that attitude this is still my favorite restaurant in cincinnati!

  • Pros: Tasty
  • Cons: parking, service stinks
