Bad Area- Dirty Hotel - Wedding Party Reservations Lost!
by eriza
Our wedding party was small and they lost reservations, cancelled the adjoining room we had for our nanny and infant, we had to scramble to find a rooms and they were on different floors. The adjoining room was given to people who were not part of the wedding party but yet we were charged for it in addition to the people who had the room which is double charging. Double charging rooms is inappropriate. They emailed and called several times to ask if we wanted to reserve the bar and brunch even though we confirmed with a credit card. We were told there would be a live band at the bar and that was not the case. There was only one bar tender causing people to wait up to 45 minutes to order a drink because there were other people in the bar not associated with the wedding. The suite we were in was not accommodating for a bridal party to get ready by any means, especially because we did not have the adjoining room we requested but yet charged for. The rug of the room was sticky to walk on and filthy - We could not walk barefoot - several people commented on it and the couches felt that way too. When the wedding party arrived with and infant - there was NO one to help us we had to carry all our stuff ourselves! We requested help the day after to carry things down to be told that the person that helps with luggage was driving the shuttle! I was shocked that the entire hotel that was supposedly booked would have ONE person to drive the shuttle and help people with their luggage. So as newly weds and with infant in tow we made two trips to carry ALL of our luggage, wedding dress, suit and all. Not one thing was done to make us feel special at this hotel. A manager did fix the double charges but only after several conversations defending the staff errors instead of just an immediate apology and resolution. Keep in mind we had spoken to the front desk three times ?before? checkout and supposedly they said the charges were taken off for one of the double booked rooms.
- Pros: Close to certain historical locations, will fix charge errors eventually
- Cons: Expensive for quality, Dirty, Loud, No check in help, Lost reservations, errors in charges.
At more than 75 years old, this hotel is still brimming with life, and at a budget price to boot.

In Short
Located on a quiet street just 10 minutes from downtown, Vernon Manor offers 177 guest rooms and suites, meeting rooms and workout facilities in the lobby. This is a popular choice of business travelers who want to be near the university and hospitals or far from the madding crowd. Among the hotel's past VIP guests are President George Bush and First Lady Nancy Reagan. And, yes, even the Beatles once stayed at this well-preserved structure.
