I have worked for Skyline for over 10 years and I still crave it. It could eat it at all hours of the day, and I used to when I had to go in to work early, nothing beat a coney for breakfast! I feel thus says alot considering I started out in the dishroom and worked my way up to mamgement so I have seen all angles of the operation and I recomend it.

  • Pros: Fast service, unique

The Scene
Cincinnati is famous for its unique style of chili and Skyline Chili is the place where it all began. Founded here in 1949 by Nicholas Lambrinides, the restaurant has expanded into Kentucky, Indiana and Florida.

The Food
This is not the thick, chunky brew that comes to mind when you think of chili. The sauce itself is thin with ground beef and secret seasonings that purportedly include a pinch of chocolate. There's an art to eating Cincinnati-style chili, best served over spaghetti. Get the 3-Way at minimum (spaghetti, chili and a heaping mound of finely grated Cheddar cheese). A 4-Way adds your choice of onions or beans, a 5-Way adds both. Some Skyline aficionados order theirs "dry" with less chili or "inverted" with the cheese on the bottom. The other signature item is the Chili Cheese Coney, a small hot dog on a bun covered with chili, cheese, onions and mustard.

A Cincinnati staple. People travel thousands of miles for these tasty concoctions. The coney dogs are just plain sloppy but unmatched for their uniqueness and taste. The chili dishes are legendary. Any time of the day, this is just plain good eating... must be a guy thing.

  • Pros: Taste, Value, Originality

One thing I love about Skyline is the other good foods they offer-- even if you want a vegetarian menu! I have to admit I love a 3-way sometimes, but I also like their bean burritos, beans and rice, etc. A good and healthy cheap lunch: order a potato with just beans and cheese-- YUM!

  • Pros: Price, taste, selection
  • Cons: a bit noisy

Not a native Ohioan, but any time Im in Cincy I stop at Skyline. Im not a chili expert, and Im sure there is better chili elsewhere, but Im addicted the five-way chili (spaghetti, chili, onions, cheese, beans).
