When I started roller derby, I only purchased gear through online retailers. Until someone told me there was a skate shop in Florence. Went in, and had an awesome conversation with the owner, ended up buying these amazing knee pads that have totally saved my knee caps from derby. I started sending other rollergirls in to buy equipment, and they all had the same great experience. Now our whole league shops there, and they are very generous about giving discounts and good advice. They have a great selection, a knowledgable staff, and really great prices. Don't buy any skate stuff (skate board or roller derby stuff) online! They will usually match the price, and they are really fair when they can't. You walk in and you can just tell the owners are passionate about skating, and aren't out to gouge anyone. They understand their market can't afford huge markups when they constantly have to replace their stuff. They even have a recycled tshirt section, where you can trade in your gently used old stuff. The atmosphere, knowledge, and price mean I'm never going back to shopping online, even if that means I have to be patient and wait a few days while they order stuff for me.
