Editorial Review for Pico's Mex-Mex Restaurant – by Citysearch Editors

The Scene
The dining room, a fairly modest affair, is a bit garish but doesn't succumb to franchise cuteness. A thatched patio out front, complete with a gurgling fountain, is perfect for groups and people who don't mind things a bit loud. Unobtrusive mariachis perform most nights.

The Food
Dubbing its fare "Mex-Mex," Pico's offers traditional and relatively exotic dishes not found at typical fajitas-and-frijoles joints. An achiote-seasoned snapper, wrapped in banana leaves, is broiled to perfection. Mancha manteles--pork stew with plantains, pineapple and raisins--is a succulent surprise. Dark, smoky mole sauce turns common enchiladas into a treat. And the stuffed poblano chili, awash in walnut-flavored cream and pomegranates qualifies for fine-dining credentials.

Never Again. Over the past couple of years Pico's has adopted a "take advantage of the people" attitude. The place is dirty, the chairs outside are broken or cheap and about to break. The service is spotty to slow. And the food is the same slop they have been serving for 15 years. Same plates, same table, same dirty ceiling, same broken toilet, same smelly dishwashing area. The manager/owner sit around looking right above the peoples heads waiting for the people sitting at the tables to leave. Pico's Mex Mex no longer serves customers. Pico's Mex Mex serves unlucky people that walk through the door and sit at the tables. Pico's Mex Mex reminds me of a below average strip-joint Save your money and time, and spend your money at another restaurant that might actually want your business.

Pros: Has parking

Cons: Owner expects to get paid for food served

Dont get fooled by some fabricated reviews. They are not that naive as a straight forward American can think. In your first and subsequent visits they will gradually milk you out in a very deceptive manner. After they restore your confidence, they materialize the same and get it liquidated till you realized and seize to visit them anymore. They prey upon you by various means. The most common one with them is to overcharge your credit card after a month as delayed operation will go unnoticed by you. That is their modus operandi! Upfront they have tons of fabricated reviews to trap others at the same time! We been there 3 times and still litigating on the billing issues. So please be careful.

Pros: Parking Lot

Cons: Poor Hygiene – If not sure, visit there kitchen beside restroom

Tantalizing Mexican food and top-shelf tequilas are a potent combination at this Bellaire favorite.  See the full editorial review.
