Best Mashed Potatoes EVER..
I have always had good experiences at El Coyote. The service is always pretty good and the food doesn't take TOO long to come out. The chips and salsa while you wait are good, but I liked the old chips better. I usually get the seafood enchiladas and my wife gets the steak fajitas. You can't go wrong with either of those two dishes. Their mashed potatoes and mac and cheese side dishes are excellent. Also, they have amazing banana cream pie. The prices are a little more expensive than I would like, but I'm willing to pay a little more on occasion.
Since moving into the area, I've had quite a few people recommend this restaurant. I don't get it. Several people have mentioned the steaks, and they're good, but not outstanding ... I had better steaks at other restaurants in the area. Other dishes I've tried have been poorly cooked ... often oversalted and overdone, and I've never been accused of liking my food rare. The lounge area is OK, the main restaurant area is noisy and crowded (not because of the number of diners, just because of the number of tables and their arrangement). The whole restaurant is too dark, in my opinion.
The thing I really disliked was the attitudes of the staff. With the possible exception of a couple of the bartenders, the rest of the staff seems to be usually at best uncaring, and often downright unfriendly. The hostesses in particular are almost nasty. I know some people might not care about that, but to me it indicates the attitude that the management has to the business.
It's too bad, because the restaurant has a nice location ... near the Anderson library, on a side street in a quiet spot. That's where the good atmosphere ends, before you get in the door.
My children took me to El Coyote for Mothers Day. When the food arrived, it wasn't very hot. The waitress did not come back to check on us. We had to have another waitress get our waitress. Table was not cleared. When we were getting ready to leave the waitress wanted to know if we wanted dessert. I used to come here quite often in the 80's and 90's. The quality of food and service has gone downhill shile the prices have gone up. Last trip for me.
Poor Service Hairy Food West Chester.
The most over rated Mexican Restaurant. Very expensive for what you get. Service was poor, even for being near empty that night. Food was mediocre. My daughter found three longs hairs in her chicken fajita. My Chicken Yuetatan (spicy) was extremely blan; the only thing spicy was the black pepper that I, myself, put on. There wasn't any manager or owner on the premises to handle the problems or supervise the employees. The waitress added a 20% gratuity to the bill, even though the menu states that there's only a 17% gratuity for parties on 6 or more adults. After that was stated, the waitress agrued saying we were wrong until she got the menu to check and realized she was the one who was wrong. We also only had my wife and I, our four children, and their four friends from out of town. The only employee who was sincerely appologetic and helpful during the night was the hostess at the door. With all of these problems, I would never even recommend this restaurant to the SPCA.
One of few places you'll find Tex-Mex food in Cincinnati happens to be a winner.. In Short Dark wood booths, hanging Mexican artifacts and stained-glass ceiling lanterns provide familiar ambience. The extensive menu highlights 19 Tex-Mex and Southwestern appetizers, including Mexican classics, fajitas, and Southwestern specialties like carne asada (blackened steak on a tortilla with stuffings) and BBQ halibut. Overall, it's essential Tex-Mex, done well. Two notable sides, American classics macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes have added flair. Cincinnatians rave about the latter, seasoned with lots of pepper, butter, oozing with cream cheese.
Great Steaks, Salty Tex-Mex.
Get a steak, they're as good as any in town, and it's the only reasonably priced thing on the menu for what it is.
The 'Tex-Mex' is little more than over-stuffed, over-salted Taco Bell at twice the price of the other decent local mexican restaurants. At least they stopped charging for chips. Service is also first rate, but I'm convinced there is no owner or manager on premise.

The best upscale "casual" on the Eastside. Huge menu that will please anyone, friendly service (we always see the same faces -- not like other restaurants, where the help comes and goes), and the best Margaritas and "KARUMBAS." This is place we frequent weekly....or more.
