The Scene – With over 200 stores, in 13 states, UDF has grown from being just a neighborhood sweet shop. Begun in 1940 by Cincinnati businessman extraordinaire Carl Lindner, many stores feature Provident ATMs, along with last minute party-supplies like beer, wine, ice and snacks. – – The Food – Vanilla and chocolate are summertime staples, of course, but special flavors each month keep the Norwood factory churning out the creamy coolness. The Homemade Brand, founded over 20 years ago, offers a thicker, more buttery ice cream than the regular UDF brand, and has the…
Delish!

Growing up with a UDF on the corner end of our neighborhood made me a firm and faithful customer. I remember going there after school and getting a double dip cone for 25 cents! It was so good and when they added the Homemade brand Chocolate Chip ice cream, they couldn't have made me happier. It's much better than Graeter's where they give you those huge chunks of chocolate that fall off of the cone. UDF is just right. I love their low-fat shakes too.

You don't realize how much you like something until you can't find it any more. I moved to central Ohio and there isn't a UDF any where close. I did find a store that carries UDF every once in awhile. When I come to Cincy I always stop and buy UDF icecream and many times have put it in a cooler to bring back home with me.
- Pros: Inexpensive, Tastes Great, Quick
- Cons: Not Located everywher, Melts
I scream for Ice Cream
by paulrkyde at Citysearch
United Dairy Farmers has one of the best selections
of ice cream available anywhere - regular, lite, and
yogurt based. Any type sundaes and milk shakes
can be custom-ordered, and their ice cream cones
are an old fashioned treat. They also feature many
toppings, additives, and rich delicious milk to take
home for private birthday parties or whatever. One
of my favorites is Peppermint Ice Cream which is
seasonal during the Christmas holidays.
- Pros: special sales, great buttermilk, UDF aims to please
- Cons: Peppermint all year?
No better or worse here

UDF ice cream deserves the top ranking in Cincinnati based on two criteria. Flavor (many choices and excellent taste/texture) and price.
Unlike some other ice creams available in town, you can take the family to UDF and not have to take out a second mortgage to pay for it.
I have but one request, dump some of the cookie dough, left over candy bars and moose droppings to return to traditional ice creams, some of the stores don't even carry strawberry and/or chocolate chip anymore.
- Pros: value (ice cream), convenient
- Cons: "new" flavors, expense, lazy employees
A little odd, but.....

It is a little odd to get ice cream at a gas station, but the Cookies-n-cream Homemade brand is the best ever. If that is your flavor, beware.... No other brand will be good enough once you've tried UDF Homemade!
