User Reviews for Philip Bortz Jewelers

I stopped in to the 4th street store to look for engagement bands and to have an appraisal done for a loose diamond I found a "too good to be true" deal for on-line. I knew that might very well be the case, but I was looking for a reputable opinion and I was looking to buy platinum bands and possibly develop a relationship with someone. An independent downtown jeweler seemed like a nice option. The owner, when I arrived, simply sat in the corner chatting with a young lady (non-customer - a Bortz, apparently). I spoke with a very kind woman who helped me look at different aspects of the diamond, but she was basically buying time for the owner to arrive. Never during his talk with this woman did the owner acknowledge my presence or mention that he would be over. He went on and on with this woman and my helper actually tried to "break it up" between the owner and this woman to get me some help. When he finally was able to tear himself away it was clear that I was a nuisance rather than a customer. Although he was not a fan of the diamond I had, which I knew was possible, he in no way was willing to help me make a more informed choice or to help with band options. He dismissed the diamond and me and immediately returned to his conversation with this woman. The kind woman apologized for him and said "oh, he is just busy." So am I, I am a professional downtown, but felt it was worth the time to write a brief note. Apparently Mr. Bortz is so busy he didn't need my business. He doesn't need yours either. Regards

Pros: Convenient location

Cons: Horrendous customer service
