Just my review and opinion of Mercy
This place is horrible! Went in three times over 8 week period since I was in pain and it's the closest place. I had the same symptoms each time, clear fluid dripping from one nostril, body pain especially in my neck and back, and headaches. I was seen by two different doctors and none of them got it right even after I told them what an ENT that I had been seeing suspected.
The first time I was literally given the diagnoses of a runny nose (rhinorrhea), probably due to allergies even though I told them this was not allergies and I had none of the usual allergy symptoms and absolutely no nasal congestion. I was told to take nasal decongestant and allergy pills and that's it.
The second time was with the same doctor. I told them then that I was miserable and that my ENT believed it could be spinal fluid leaking from a hole in the dura of my brain and was ordering some xrays. They took me for a CT scan and came back with chronic sinusitis. I was also told the body pain could be from that or I could have just picked up a bug.I'm not sure how it was chronic then since according to them I didn't have it two weeks before when I was in to them! I was given an antibiotic and something for the body pain, and sent home again.
Third and worst visit another two weeks after that. I had an MRI that didn't find anything remarkable ordered by my ENT but he was still going to refer me to a neurologist because something wasn't right. I went back to ER for the pain that was just unbearable. I had a different doctor in the ER this time but I'd have gladly taken the first one back even as ineffectual as she was. This one was rude and extremely condescending. He told me without a head injury I couldn't have a cerebrospinal leak. I asked them to check the fluid coming from my nose and he told me they couldn't just look at it and say "Yep. That's spinal fluid." He told me that I needed a new ENT if mine wasn't going to do anything and "no offense to Dr. Bauer (my ENT) but we're all wrong sometimes" I left there with a referral to another ENT and a prescription for another nasal spray. I never filled the nasal spray since I told them on ALL 3 VISITS that I had absolutely no head congestion since this had started. I did however go see the ENT that he recommended for a second opinion. That ENT also said cerebrospinal fluid leak!!
I did finally get my call from a neurosurgeon on a Friday morning. Set up an appointment with him for Monday morning and by the following Friday I had surgery to have my brain patched because I had cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea or CSF Rhinorrhea. He wanted the surgery as soon as possible since the leaking was getting worse and worse over time and there was a chance I could get meningitis. He also said the MRI (that Mercy Hospital said had showed nothing remarkable) had two different suspicious spots that could be the sight of my leak. He also collected fluid to have tested to see if it was CSF. A part of my brain was pushed through the hole that was as big as a thumbnail I'm told. They had to push it back in an patch the hole was tissue from inside my nasal cavity and glue.
I am doing well after my surgery but no thanks to Mercy Hospital. They really dropped the ball on this one!! They do not take the time to listen or do what they are supposed to. They are about nothing anymore but trying to get as many people out the door as they possibly can. I was spoken down to by someone who presumed to know my body better than I did myself and made to feel that I was going crazy because they supposedly knew more than me.
The only way I would ever return to this hospital is if I'm out cold and an ambulance takes me there without me knowing and I will NEVER, EVER recommend it to anyone. I'd rather take the extra time to go somewhere else even is it's a life threatening situation since being there with their terrible doctors could be just as life threatening!!!!!
I know that when we are sick or injured we expect the Dr.s & Nurses to be right there on the spot, with all the answers.......The truth is that they get bloodwork , Xrays, etc..... Then they have to wait until they get results back & this does take some time..... Meanwhile we Or our loved ones can only wait to see what's next......So please think of the day that they may have had & the Rude Patients that they get in the E.R.......In 2008 I went into the E.R. with shortness of breath & a tight feeling in my chest.....After Xrays, ekg & bloodwork they found nothing going on, But because of my family history of heart disease the Dr. decided to admit me. Dr. Babbitt did a heart cath the next day & found out I have a terminal disease called Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, If I had not gotten the right care at Mercy Fairfield I wouldn't be here now to share my story.....I really think most of the employee's go above & beyond their job.....And I also Want to Say THANK YOU to APRIL , who works in the stress lab !!!!! If you need a Heart Hospital, Mercy Fairfield is the place to be!

RUDE DR. NURSES WAS GREAT.
My Daughter came thur the ER on Oct 21, 2008 from work after she started feeling funny, My Husband and I (Her Parents) Live in Brown County about 1 1/2 away so it took us awhile to get to her, When we arrived we were greeted by a nice nurse that informed us as to what room she was in, so we went to her right away thinking she would be scared,(Shes only 20 and never went to ER by herself) We found her in really good sprits and doing as well as she could be, seeing how she was in the ER, First thing she said was Mom i was so scared when i got her eby Ambulance, but the nurses were all so sweet to me it made me not as scared, I was impressed, then the nurse came in and stated what they were doing for her and that she would need and XRAY, she was very nice to us all, The Xray tech came in and was just as nice and funny as the other staff, Now heres were it gets bad, we were in the room across from the nursing station when we hear a DR. Goldfard (May be spelled wrong) but anyway he was so rude to the staff and his patience(She was older lady) he was requesting a walker for her and the male nurse said ok no problem i'll call and get her one, the DR then say well do it then and he went on to say" AND IF SHE DONT WANT TO USE IT SEND HER TO A NURSING HOME AND IF SHE DONT LIKE THAT SHE CAN SIGN OUT AMA) AGAINST MEDICAL ADVICE) I WAS FLOORED No one was arging with this dr he just felt like playing the big DR, well mr so called dr if you had been our dr i would of smacked you right in the face and went to jail, i feel sorry for anyone coming in contact with DR MORON GOLDFARB, WHAT A jurkbecause of that i'll never recommand this hosiptal, even though the rest of the staff was great, I'd never speak to my dogs like that let alone people.
DR GOLDFARB YOUR A JURK AND IM CALLING THE ADM AT THE HOSPITAL AS WELL
