In Short – The main dining room ceiling soars above the pink marble tabletops and gilded frescoes of this upscale hotel restaurant. Orchid's menu doesn't break any new ground, but it does offer well-prepared dishes in large portions. Meat lovers will enjoy the herb crusted veal chop or wild mushroom meatloaf.Lighter appetites may favor the Mediterranean angel hair pasta with shrimp, scallops and clams or the Atlantic salmon poached in vermouth.
Salty food
by bosanka
I am not sure if I would go back as most of our food was very salty. the meals are well thought out but poorly executed from the salt perspective. and I enjoy saltier food. however, my prime rib and my husbands scallops were over the top salty. the crab cake we had for appetizer was average, not a typical crab cake so if one is expecting traditional crag cake, i would not order this one. my first meal was delicious - i had honey bignets and they were outstanding. desserts were delicious. my husband had oreo/truffle dessert and i had a pastry type of desserts with banana foster topping and creamy filling. very nice. as i said our mail dishes were overly salty - i only had two bites of my prime rib. however, their truffle macaroni and cheese and two thumbs up. overall, not the greatest food experience for us, but the atmosphere was nice and waiting staff if great.
- Pros: waiting staff and desserts
- Cons: very salty meals
great food
by dave2054
great contemporary food in a classic setting. great mix of food and flavors with a small but nice wine list,
wait staff is attentive without being intrusive, not your typical hotel fare. this place is on for the books
- Pros: food and decor
- Cons: parking
Extraordinary in many ways
by hlgrim01
The room is like a movie set from the by-gone days of art deco's hey-day. Simply stunning. Food is excellent, but the menu could vary a bit more seasonally. Don't miss the Sunday brunch. I think this is my favorite restaurant (sorry Pigal's and Daveed's). It is a unique place that one does not encounter much these days.
Big hint: use the valet parking for the Hilton and get your card stamped at the restaurant. You will breeze in and out.
- Pros: Stunning architechture, excellent food
- Cons: The chef could be more flexible with seasonal changes to the menu
