OWNER IS A BULLY. I don't know about the food but I do know this. The owner, JOHN CAULFIELD, sat behind me in HS and he bullied me mercilessly. He would insult me and kick my chair and call me names just to show off for a girl named Rosemary LaFleur. I finally had to leave my seat at the front of the class and move to the back and my grades suffered. For years I let this guy bring me down all because HE WAS A JERK. I would throw his food on the floor.…
worth the wait.... Everything on the menu is excellent. Try the gator sauted or pan fried rather than deep fried. Try the pan seared grouper-outstanding. The gumbo is the best I have every eaten-not watery and full of only okra and rice. The greens are second best to a certain Alabama man's I know. Try your salad with the onion mustard dressing and the bleu cheese crumbles. The Italian cream cake and Kahlua pie are very good. The only complaint I have is that the bread is so bland and tasteless-but at least you can use it to mop up the juices and creamy sauces from your other dishes.…
Our First and Last Visit.
We arrived a few minutes early for our Anniversary dinner out. We did have reserbations. It was our first time to the Knotty Pine on the Bayou.
We were excited to go. We heard it was a bit pricey, however, was to be super good food, but, this was our anniversary and thought we should treat ourselves and have been wanting to go for some time.
We were seated. Our server was friendly. The place was hectic and it seemed to have little coordination.
We ordered drinks. They came and we ordered dinner.
We waited. And waited.
The server came past with an order for another table and just dropped off a second beer for my husband. She didn't bother to ask if I also would like another. She kept on going. Strike One!
We waited. She came by. Asked if my husband would like another beer, I guess it is assumed the man always pays the tip and should have special attention. That is not always the case. Strike two!
She did ask me if I would like another drink. It was more of an after thought. Strike Three! Now I am telling my husband to start deducting from the tip.
She kept calling me sweety! I don't know why waitresses, cashiers and hair dressers have to call you 'hon' or 'sweety'. it is very annoying.
I finally was fed up with waiting for our food and being called 'Sweety" and let her know.
Our meal dinally came. I ordered grilled shrimp. There were about 7 shrimp and a half full plate of red potatoes and collard greens..
My husband had the rib eye, half plate of red potatoes and beans. It wasn't the worst he has had, but has had many better ones. He said it was stringy and not as tender as it should/could have been.
Will we go back? Probably not.…
Great Gumbo, Good fried food & hot sauce.
Cool old place with a slanted floor and a wall of hot sauces. The Gumbo is one of the best soup-like creations that I have ever eaten. Next time, I am going ALL Gumbo... plus some good beer and
lots of different hot sauces.
Everything is good, but the gumbo is great!…
Charming. Fun place to eat and drink. Casual, fun atmosphere! A place I will visit a number of times!
