In Short – The slanty floorboards, Formica bar tops and a cabin-styled fireplace of this backwoods restaurant all create the sensation that you are officially in the middle of nowhere. Patrons would be wise to coordinate their visits with the seasonal crawfish boils, as well as try the spicy gumbo with chicken and andouille sausage chunks. Frog legs are few for the price, but where else can you get a heapin' helping of that tender, rich meat?

Don't expect a lagniappe here!

by OttoPalate

That Louisiane laid-back approach to life doesn’t exist at he Knotty Pine. It’s quick in, quick out. So don’t expect to sit back and “parler” too long. The authentic Cajun fare, albeit delectable, didn’t come without a price and neither did the “Abita Turbodog” either, at $4.50 a bottle.

WARNING: Large party gratuity tips are figured at 18% of the total bill (including tax), not the subtotal. So you may end up paying around 20% in tips.

  • Pros: Flavorful Cajun fare, spicy and hot (both ways)
  • Cons: Pricey! Rushed!

My number 1 request for my birthday dinner!

by birthdaygirl34

I have loved going out to eat since I was a little girl. For this restaurant to be my hands down favorite really, really says so much! My birthday is in June, and I love sitting at the "back porch" tables looking at the hazy tree covered hills and the Licking River. They have a long sloping yard that leads down to the river, which is perfect to let the kids run for a while during our pre-dinner drinks. The ladies room always has nice, scented hand lotion (not the cheap kind). The service is not slow... it is relaxed and relaxing. This is not fast food, this is a dining experience. Yes, the floor is not always where you expect it to be, the screen door bangs way too hard, sometimes you have to wait for a table. Good things come to those who wait! I always have frog legs for my appetizer, shrimp scampi over pasta and Kaluha pie for my birthday dessert. It makes my mouth water thinking about it! I don't enjoy very spicy food but my husband does, so he goes for the Cajun selections. My kids are happy with the chicken tenders and a salad and playing in the big yard by the river. My dad always has a B&B "up" to savor after dinner. I'm full and sleepy and happy when I leave. Want off the beaten path of cookie cutter "sit down" restaurants? This is perfect, in every way!

  • Pros: A special experience
  • Cons: Pricey, not a quick dinner
