Best place to work for ever. The legendary Historic Southgate House is one if not the best venue in the region. Its an old mansion converted into 3 seperate music venues. The house was home to Richard Southgate who's grandson is the inventer of the "Tommy Gunn" General Thompson who actually was born in the house...i am responding to the "shitty experience" below. I am the person who had the unfortunate duty to eject two young ladies who were minors drinking alcohol. It is illegal to drink under the age of 21 and is a major violation to our liquor liscense for it to happen. Its the most important rule at our venue that we take very seriously, not only is it against the law, we would be shut down for a month and we would have to lay off employees and cancel shows, common sense if you stop to think about it. We at the Southgate House WELCOMES every person to come and enjoy the wonderful experience, the folks who work there preserve its history by realizing its something greater than us. By preserving our historic landmark our only rule is that we dont allow unlawful actions to take place. I explained not in full detail to the underage young lady and she was so intoxicated from alcohol and illegal substance that she called the police, i being sober advised against it and she didnt like my answer and surprisingly assaulted me 5 times to my face. No worries, its the ugly part of my job im fine and didnt press assault charges, its the only time in the 3 years that the police has ever shown up to our establishment and im embarassed for me and her that this was an issue. Im so sorry that the young lady had to pay fines and i am very happy for her that she didnt have to go to jail on assault charges. I responded to this only to allow the fine folks that read this a chance to understand how wonderful the Southgate House is and to come and enjoy the fun. We take pride that you can walk in our door, let your guard down and enjoy live music from all over the world, again i am sorry that someone had a bad experience at our establishment but i also know someone will have a bad experience at Disneyworld as well, thank you very much citysearch for your time and thank you for reading my review. PLEASE, come on down and enjoy the music and experience and celebrate the history of the Southgate House.
shitty experiance will keep me from goin ever again. first off the only reason i gave them 1 star is cuz i had to. I had the worst experience ever at the southgate house for the why concert. The place is very unprofessional they kicked my girlfriend out and my friend niki for one not having x's and being underage when the guy at the door didnt give them any and then as they were escorting niki out they told the police, at first that she hit the manager in the face 3 time a girl hit a guy in the face unlikely then the story changed to 5 times in the face this place is shitty and will never get any of our business again cuz now my friend has to pay 200 dollars in citations for something she didnt do at all and what really pissed me off is they tried to accuse my girlfriend of having alcoholic drinks which she didnt eve touch one so f you southgate house i hope you have good lawyers. PEACE

One of the few places left to see touring indie bands and local favorites onstage..
In Short
The ballroom has a large stage and offers music fans two levels to congregate. Upstairs, there's some seating (a few couches) to satisfy the genuine lounge lizard. The bar is downstairs, with tables scattered about. Music fans get a little bit of everything here, from punk-rock shows by city scenesters to big indie stars on tour. This is also the place to see those tribute shows (Neil Diamond, etc.) to benefit area good causes.
Great place to watch live music!. This is a really great place to watch live music of all kinds...the beer is served in cans, the place is huge, and it's a fun place to hang with friends and either watch people on an open mic or watch a legitimate band. You don't have to dress up or do anything but come and enjoy the music.
the real deal. What Bogarts once was. Gritty, adaptable, good sound and NON-Clear Channel. Definitely the coolest place in Greater Cincinnati. It has the vibe of lower Eastside NYC. Great variety. Decent open mic, the few remaining worthwhile touring acts (Junior Brown, Wesley Willis {PBUH}, etc.) and a basically cool scene.
Finally I'm Home. The music at the Southgate House is normally the best of the locals. The best of the locals have met some people and they are the best of the Mid-west and Eastern Coast. Those people know some people who are the best in the South and the West. So our music melting pot comes to play at the Southgate house because the owners are great people and the place is huge and it used to be an old frat house. There are couches on the porch and it sits in the trees in between the city and the river. Finally there is a place to go to see unbelievable live music and sit or dance. Noone knows about it. Thank God!
best music the area has to offer. The Southgate House, actually located just across the river in Newport Kentucky is by far the best place, and perhaps the only left in the area, to catch the latest in addition to the well established local acts. In addition to this, they also showcase national touring indie bands, as well as folk acts and other bands involved in the no depression movement. If your looking for a live show, you won't find a better spot in the area.
The house that Thompson Built. This is the finest place to catch a show in the greater Cinci area. You can't have a bad spot to watch the show. You can sit or stand 180 degrees around the band. Also, they have adequate lighting and sound to bring in the big little acts.
Southgate Rocks. Is there anything else that needs said? Where else can you see The White Stripes for 8 bucks and get a PBR for $2.25?
