DO NOT SHOP AT HESS JEWELERS! I ordered a bracelet for my daughter and when I went in to pick it up they tried to give me a completely different bracelet which was inferior to the one I had ordered. The owners said it was the same bracelet claiming manufacturing differences and said no two bracelets are exactly alike. I spent the next 15 minutes finding both bracelets in their ordering catalog proving that they were lying, trying to pawn off a cheaper bracelet. Needless to say, I took my business to a jewelry store with more integrity. SHAME ON YOU HESS JEWELERS for such deceitful business practices.
BEWARE- DO NOT GO HERE!. Just left this place with a broken watch and $20 poorer. I stopped in for a simple battery replacement. When the owner returned the watch to me, chrystals were loose. He stated that there was corrosion damage but the loose chrystals would not hurt timekeeping. It was in perfect condition prior to handing it to him. While I was standing there the watch jammed up and is now trash. So upset!
AAA for Hess Jewelers. I was quite surprised to hear of some negative reviews for this establishment. I too had a very expensive piece made for my wife, but unlike previous posters had no problem. I was also wise enough to buy insurance. The personal service is great, and I honestly can find no fault with this Jeweler. I also must say that they have one of the finest watchmakers on staff in this part of the country. I won't go into detail, but after buying, selling and collecting high end timepieces for over 30 years, I won't take my pieces to anyone else! Keep up the good work. I recommend!

Only Good Things to Say about Hess Jewelers.
I have had numerous pieces made by this jeweler, and had nothing but good experiences each and every time I've bought something.
I stopped buying things from the retailers because I've found the best quality and attention from the Hess Family.
I would HIGHLY recommend visiting them for all your needs when it comes to fine jewelry.
wont patronize. I find it interesting that the only positive review of Hess Jewelers is from it's owners. Granted, Mr. Higgins did not purchase insurance for this brand new custom ring..but his buying insurance has nothing to do with poor workmanship. I've worn my engagement ring everyday for the past 13 years, and have never had an issue with stones falling out. That this ring was 6 months old and 2 stones fell out and the customer brought the ring in to have it examined is ridiculous. I will not bring any business to Hess Jewelers.
Do not patronize. I could give you many good reasons not to patronize Hess Jewelers, but I probably shouldn't publish it on the Internet...or should I?
Hess Jewelers.
Hello:
This is in response to Jon Higgins negative blog regarding our business. Unfortuantely Mr. Higgins is leaving out some very important details that I would like to clarify.
Yes, we made Mr. Higgins wife a beautiful new ring in July 2009. We reset her center diamond as well as her other smaller diamonds into the new ring. It was exactly what Mr & Mrs. Higgins wanted. Once we completed the ring we then did a detailed written appraisal (which we do on every piece of jewelry we make or sell) to provide to Mr. & Mrs. Higgins so that they could call there insurance company to get it insuranced. Also in our appraisal information we provide the customer with information from Jeweler's Mutual insurance company where you can also buy a policy for about $80 - $100 a year for a ring of this value.
It is up to the customer to purchase insurance for any valuable that they have and you would have thought that Mr. & Mrs. Higgins would have purchase a policy for there ring.
As with all of our customers we always tell them to bring it back in a month so we can check it, polish it and clean as a service. This is a free service and we have many customers who come in on a weekly bases to have there jewelry cleaned and check. There is nothing wrong with keeping your jewelry looking beautiful.
When Mr. Higgins came into our store on 12/15/09 advising that "we have a problem" the center diamond was missing. Upon inspection by myself and my husband there were lot's of white thread around the smaller diamond prongs and the center stone prongs were pulled and bent back. In order for this to happend some sort of force or trama needed to be done to make a diamond come out of the mounting. Dennis explained this to Mr. Higgins and I then said we provided you with an appraisal at the time you picked up your ring, did you have it insuranced? Mr. Higgins looked surprised by this questions and he then stated
"No, we did not get it insuranced". We advised him that is why we provided you with this appraisal so if there is a lost. I believe Mr. Higgins realized that he was negligent in not purchasing insurance.
Our offer to sell Mr. Higgins for 5% of our cost was certainly above and beyond our responsability and was offered as a benefit to Mr. Higgins.
The quality of our workmanship is the finest in the entire miamvalley area and all work is performed in our store on site.
Sincerely,
Shari Hess
Avoid doing business here. Long story short we lost over $6000.00 in diamonds on a custom ring due to shotty workmanship. TWO STONES FELL OUT IN LESS THAN SIX MONTHS FROM DATE OF PURCHASE. Their suggestion was to come in once a month to have the ring checked. Once a month! Who does this? After the first stone came out my wife took her ring back a month and a half later for it's "check up." The ring recieved a green light by the owner, Dennis Hess, only to lose the main stone a month and a half later. My wife wore her other rings for 15 to 20 years and never had a stone fall out, yet when I had a custom ring made for our 20 year anniversary using some of her favorite stones this is the nightmare she endured. She's beside herself. Their response to this was deplorable and cavalier. Dennis Hess suggestion to me? "I can sell you another stone for my cost plus 5%." When I shop diamonds I can get that pricing all day long, I certainly don't need to go to Hess Jewelers to purchase diamonds if I'm looking for a deal, which by the way was not a deal. Keep that in mind too.
look elsewhere.
poor customer service and (strangely enough) appeared to be a real lack of interest with getting business. I went in to store and requested a price of a watch (very pricey)...did not have in stock and promised to call with price quote...no call, even after follow-up call on machine. Additionally, I dropped off a watch for repair(took many weeks before it was returned) and when I left messages inquiring about status-no response!
