glad they closed it down

Yeah... I have to say: I traveled the world in the last 29 years and I have seen lot.... saddly to say: I don't think that the economy is fault on their downfall. We dined there once with my family. Here some basics: tables were dirty, silverware dingy, dirty. The service was nice BUT: that lady had A LOT of warts on her hands. I didn't feel comfortable knowing that she touched my silverware and napkin! The food was cold, didn't taste good. The bathroom was small and dirty. Too bad that this owner didn't take advantage of the wonderful location. A very idyllic town, with lots of history and culture. Cleaniness and a simple but tasty meny would have saved it.

My advice: The best restaurant in Augusta: we were there just today and we discovered this wonderful little place called BRAVO CAFE, not far from th Bee'hive ruin. The ambiance is extrordinary, A very clean establishment, tasteful decorated, the food was EXCELLENT, the service was STELLAR! The bathroom very classy and clean! We took extra food to go, it was that great! Prices are reasonable. It was worth driving all the way there from Cincinnati for that. We will definitelly return.

Beehive Tavern people should learn a lesson.

Don't know who cooks at this Bravo Cafe, but they certainly know what people expect. A+!

Bye = Bye Beehive Tavern! we won't miss you!

Wonderful

by misslinda24 at Citysearch

We made the trip on the motorcycle. Had coffee at the General Store and walked around waiting for the Beehive to open for lunch. I had the chilled cucumber soup. Very delicious and refreshing on a hot hot day. Hubby had the black beans and rice. Full of flavor.

Our service was just fine. Friendly waitress who was especially cute with the older couple sitting near us.

This was my second visit, hubby's first. We will be back!

  • Pros: river view, small town charm, history of the place
  • Cons: restrooms could be updated

Stay Away!

by Kruger at Citysearch

Based on the review in the Louisville Mazazine we gave this place a shot. The web site looked good and the location on the shores of the Ohio River appeared great.

That is where it ended. It ewas dirty. The Chicken Salad came from a can. The Burger was pre cooked and there was only one choice for cheese. One beer in the bar. And, the place if dirty.

Don't go near this place. Run away. The staff could care less.

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Dirty, miserable menu, staff does not care, only one beer

Recent Visit to Beehive

by woman1949 at Citysearch

On a recent visit to Augusta for dinner we chatted it up with locals and got several suggestions that we should try the Beehive. From what we heard we expected a great meal. We were told to get reservations which we did.

When we arrived to an empty restaurant we found the suggestion of reservations quite interesting. The service was good and we had a good table (lots to chose from when a place is empty on a Friday night!) The menu was a disappointment and the food followed suit pretty much. One of our party got a Cuba dish of sorts (Pork rendered down with rice and beans) which he found quite lackluster. I cannot say our food was awful, but we wish we had tried another place in town (of which there are several.)

  • Pros: Good location, ambiance in historic building
  • Cons: Rather nondescript menu and food

Great Food & Service At Family-Friendly Historic Tavern With Nice View Of Ohio River

by TJHtravel at Citysearch

After reading the column written by Nick Clooney (Cincinnati & national TV personality, and Bat Man's father) regarding the Beehive Tavern's food, history, and chef, I had my doubts this restaurant could continue to match his praise. {Nick's write-up is at www.rosemaryclooneydotcom (replace dot with .), click in the left side "Bulletin Board" column on "Links", and then in the right side "Rosemary's Favorite Places" column click on The Beehive Restaurant.} I was pleased to find that this establishment continues to excel.

I took my family on the BB Riverboats day-long excursion from Cincinnati to Augusta, arriving in early afternoon. I had made reservations at the Beehive Tavern in advance (recommended), and a river-view window table was held for our arrival. Outdoor porch dining is also available overlooking the Ohio river.

As noted by Nick Clooney, the menu is varied and the food excellently prepared and presented. The historic nature of the tavern is preserved. The friendliness of the staff adds to the charm. Prices are reasonable.

  • Pros: Great food in an historic setting.
  • Cons: Might be a longer drive if coming from Ohio and not using Augusta's car ferry to cross the river.
