Interesting - not good !.
Very disapointed in the food, exptectations were high, outcome stunk. Sushi rolls were soggy; salmon soggy and rib-eye bone in over crusted. Not a picky crowd but did expect what's been advetised. Save you're money and go to a local mom and pops and enjoy - better yet, stay home with a good piece of meat / fish and a salad !

To much sizzle, not enough steak!.
I have tried and tried to enjoy Carlo and Johnny's. I have eaten here many times and each time I leave not happy with the steaks. The atmosphere is great, the service is very good, sides are very good, but the steaks are below average. I don't care how many people say how good they are, I know better! It does not matter if it is Prime or not, there should never be the amount of gristle in a steak that is being sold for 48 bucks. I also, understand that fat is an important part of a Prime steak, but it should be small amounts integrated within the beef and not large hunks that are inedible. Go eat at David Burke's Primehouse in Chicago and you will know what an amazing steak is, hell even Mortons is better IMHO. I just hate leaving somewhere after spending $300 for drinks and dinner and not be 100% happy!

Awesome.
Carlo & Johnny is such a unique restaurant definitely a hidden jewel in Montgomery. It's a Jeff Ruby place so obviously the steaks are awesome. The sushi and raw bar are wonderful too. They have a full service bar with cocktail waitresses so you don't have to go to the bar to get your own drinks. I imagine that's why you cant transfer the check to the dining room so that the girls can make some money too. The service was excellent they know when to work and when to leave you alone. A Cincinnati best for sure!

Extravagant and opulent Italian-American steakhouse by restaurateur Jeff Ruby..
In Short
This elegant restaurant is housed in a former mansion, just off downtown Montgomery. Split into three dining rooms, the atmosphere is unusual and eclectic, with gangster artifacts and animal heads adorning the walls. Each room has its own menu, but all offer delectable steaks. The Emerald Room is grand and elegant, with leather banquettes and a statue of a mermaid. The Chicago room offers pasta dishes, including spaghetti carbonara and penne Bolognese. The Grill room features some lighter fare, including duck and fish.

Good Food ... Wine Over priced.
The raw bar and Steak are VERY good. Service was good except that you can't forward your bar tab to the dinner bill (minor point but they firmly refused).
Warn dark atmosphere. Wine list is pretentious and FAR overpriced. They add $20-30 a bottle over other resurants of similar level.
Should not have to pay for valet parking in MONTGOMERY!!! (nickel and dime the customer in my opinion)
When we arrived the resturant was 50-70% full ... many open tables. They refused to seat us 20min early and didn't come get us on time. We had to ask again if our table was ready (15min after res time) as we looked at several open tables.
If they expect to portray the image of a high end resturant ... this is unnacceptable.
