The Gaslight's Best Kept Secret.
I'm more than a little skeptical about the few negative reviews here; as for me, I can verify similar experiences as "Justcallmepepper"'s.
We celebrate almost every special occasion with our Biagio and his helpful staff. He will cook to order. His specials are always delightful...His staff will make a drink just the way you like it.
When we don't feel like cooking (which is getting to be more often!!) they will bag up the special of the day along with soup,salad and bread and we turn our dining room at home into a little bistro. Sometimes there is even a surprise dessert in the bottom of the bag too!
Biagio is a gem in our little neighborhood. I hope no one EVER lures him away!!
My fav. Knockout garlic & herb aroma, delicious pasta dishes, nice salads, scrumptious desserts. Good service. Too bad no parking. Absolutely one of Cincinnati's best-kept secrets. Reminded me of a European bistro from the 70's. I go every chance I get.

An indie restaurant owned by a larger than life Italian man named Biagio?!!!!!
Why am I only just now hearing about this place? Been there for almost 9 years, I can only say I have missed out for all those years! Walked in & just to the right, there is a charming little bar - which is full service with a pretty nice wine list. To the left is the dessert case, letting you know you better save room because everything looked amazing.
But front & center is Biagio himself cooking on 5 open burners. All the while chatting & flirting with all his customers. When Biagio is not whipping up some incredible freshly made pasta dish, he & his lovely wife are making the rounds chatting with the customers, making you feel as if you have just stepped into their Italian home!
Biagio apparently likes to flirt with everyone, young girls & older ladies - and does it with absolute charm & charisma. Letting everyone know that he wants you to feel welcomed. While we were there he was teasing us, asking if we wanted any of his "chocolate-balls".... winking all the while at his wife who just gave us the "eye-roll" and a smile as if to say, she's heard it a hundred times but never really tires of hearing it.
Our friends let them know it was our anniversary so of course, we were offered a complimentary dessert & a limoncello... Since we paced ourselves from the beginning, we were ready for it - especially after that incredible meal.
I had ordered the special, twin petite filets over freshly made pasta & a chipotle sauce. Our dinners came with a soup or a salad & fresh bread. I chose the soup, cream of tomato with basil, trust that I was not dissappointed. The soup was just the beginning of what turned out to be one of the most enjoyable dinners we have had in sometime. We couldn't resist, we had to have some of his "chocolate-balls"! They were the best chocolate covered cream puffs ever eaten.
We will definitely be back - probably next saturday!!!
Too hot to eat!. We wanted to try this restaurant for several months. Apparently we chose the wrong time. We made reservations and although the dinner was good I really considered it overpriced. But the real problem is that no one told us it was not air conditioned and it was already 90 plus degrees outside. We could not enjoy our dinner with everyone sweating and miserable. I servers are young and they ran out of the beer we were drinking and then had to switch us to another. It is clear they cater to the "regulars"....and that is okay but if you want anyone to come back then you should treat everyone the same. We did not have dessert because it was tooooo hot. All we wanted to do was get out of there. I knew it was bad when we walked outside and it was cooler out there then inside....and they just did not seem to care. Will not go back. Also....too many pan handlers hanging around this part of town....not the fault of the restaurant....just should be better patroled.
Not on the Menu? Biaggio will create a meal!. Very good staff. Very good food. Excellent! Biaggio came to our table and asked us what we wanted as we were not in the mood for the menu items... He created a wonderful dish!
Great little place-Very Busy on the Weekends--- Lunch is nice --- slow down...relax :-). I've been living in Clifton Gaslight for the past 7years and I can say without a doubt that Biagios is my favorite little restaurant of the Ludlow options. My favorites are the house and greek salads with the tilapia on top and the wedding soup. The wedding Soup is a must. I also am a big fan of his Italian Sub...I love the atmosphere. Especially in the cold winter months, this place is a sweet little place with comfort and warmth. They do serve alcohol for many years now. I love the service -- funky and stylish they are. I think its a great date place...or after movie place. This guy does fabulios desserts-- My favorites are the chocolate covered cream puffs and the crem brulee. I go there for lunch as well.
Eh.... This may be a fine restaurant but I cannot recommend it. My experience was that the management did not care. I am not going back. Buon Pomeriggio.
Editorial Review. Located in the Gaslight District, this Renaissance-styled bistro is a fine date destination, with casual-yet-cultured ambience and authentic Italian flair.
Save it for after the movies.
Food Fairly standard Italian menu with Middle Eastern additions (hummus, potato salad, and tabouli). Pasta and specials are OK, but a bit overpriced for the quality. The real highlights are the desserts the tiramisu, creme brulee, and peanut butter pie are all delicious.
Bar OK wine and beer selection and full bar. Avoid cocktails - dusty bottles behind the bar look like they are from the liquor museum and the bartender has a love affair with vermouth.
Ambience - Biagio's is lacking big time here. It seems to occupy a former knick-knack shop or greeting cards store. I half-expected to be able to purchase some potpourri or scented candles when I went to the bathroom. The bright lighting, drop ceilings, and pegboard on the walls are big detractors.
Bottom Line: Save Biagios as a place for dessert after seeing a movie at the Esquire. Skip everything else.
