This massive park offers 4,022 acres that include an 18-hole golf course, campgrounds, three nature trails, an 85-acre fishing lake, a soccer complex and Shaker Trace Trail, a 7.8-mile loop. Sierra Club-types will appreciate that the park's land management goal--to restore 700 acres of the park to the prairies and wetlands they were before. So far, 170 acres of wetlands have been reclaimed, and volunteers are welcome to help with the project.

The ExtrasParky's Pirate Cove, a water playground with alligators that shoot water from their mouths, a giant octopus and other wet stuff, is perfect for kids. The free playground is open daily from May 22 to September 6.
